NFL Rumors: Insider believes Eagles lining up "monster contract extension" for Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles seem to have found their franchise quarterback in Jalen Hurts. After a decent year as a starter in 2021, the Eagles dual-threat burst onto the scene and became a legitimate MVP candidate for the NFC-leading Eagles.

Now, with his contract ending after next season, the Eagles may be looking at locking him down for a long time. NFL insider Ian Rapoport believes a massive extension could be on the way.

From @NFLGameDay: #Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is eligible for an extension after this season, and there are no doubts he's a massive part of their long-term future. A look at what could be coming... https://t.co/gIxAYkUiex

Rapoport said:

"Jalen Hurts set to make $4 million next year, the final year of his rookie contract. Unlike Joe Burrow, no fifth-year option because he's not a first-rounder, but he is eligible for an extension after the season. My understanding is that the Philadelphia Eagles and his agent get together this offseason and work out what would no doubt be a big-time, monster extension for Jalen Hurts."

He continued:

"Just think about how far he has come. This time last year, we were wondering, 'Is he for sure the guy for the Eagles?' Now, an MVP candidate and led his team all the way to today. No doubt, he is a massive part of the Eagles future."

Hurts led the Eagles to a 14-3 record and the NFC's top seed. Today, he has a chance to send them back to the Super Bowl in a matchup with the red-hot San Francisco 49ers.

What could a Jalen Hurts contract extension look like?

Currently, quarterbacks get massive contracts left and right. Hurts, who could have won MVP if not for Patrick Mahomes and a brief shoulder injury, figures to be the next to do just that.

If players like Kyler Murray, Deshaun Watson and and an aging Aaron Rodgers received over $40 million a season, then Hurts will more than likely do the same.

His contract may also be extremely long, since he's just 24 years old. The Eagles could be able to lock him down for a very long time.

He could be offered an extension of six or seven years, totaling upwards of $300 million with ease. Hurts has become a superstar and the Eagles will probably pay him like one.
