NFL Rumors: Jets look to lure Derek Carr with Hall of Fame praise
After nearly a decade with the Las Vegas Raiders, Derek Carr is looking for his second team in the NFL. The quarterback has made a couple of pitstops, but most recently wrapped up a chat with the New York Jets.
Speaking on NFL Live in a clip posted on Twitter, NFL Insider Dianna Russini revealed that New York projected the quarterback to become a potential first-ballot Hall of Famer. Here's how she put it:
"I heard it went really well from both sides... They were pretty clear with him. They told him he was a great quarterback. They believe he's got a legit surrounding cast of players. They went through the top young [defense], the strong, young skill guys, the explosive run game..."
Will Derek Carr finish over .500 in 2023?
She continued, revealing how the team buttered up the quarterback:
"[The Jets] made it super personal too. They said, 'We believe if you come to New York and win, you could be a first ballot Hall of Famer.'"
Derek Carr wraps up decade-long career with Raiders on sour note
While the quarterback was quite cordial in how he ended things in Las Vegas, the season as a whole fell below expectations for most fans. After making the playoffs for the first time since 2016 with an interim head coach, many expected bigger things from the franchise.
However, the Raiders started 1-4 in replacement head coach Josh McDaniels' first season with the team. Derek Carr threw for 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions before getting benched near the end of the season. In total, he went 6-9 with the team in his worst record as a starter since 2018.
With the quarterback benched, the Raiders saw a flash from Jarrett Stidham against the San Francisco 49ers. Who will win the breakup in 2023? Will the Raiders choose a quality quarterback and pop or will Carr make the team regret quitting on him?
