Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is expected to be traded this offseason, and Arizona is looking for good compensation in return as talks have ramped up lately.

According to NFL insider Albert Breer, the Cardinals are looking for at least a second-round pick plus something else of value in return for the star receiver.

Update: Trade talks with #Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins are ‘ramping up’ among teams, per @RapSheet

The Cardinals have reportedly been asking for a “2nd round pick plus something else of value” in previous trade discussions.

While Hopkins certainly possesses the skillset to warrant a second-round pick plus more, a few factors may be a problem with the Cardinals getting what they want.

First, DeAndre Hopkins is only getting older. He will begin the season at the age of 31, which is older for a wide receiver. With age comes injuries.

Hopkins hasn't played a full season in the last two years. In 2021, he suffered two separate injuries that forced him to miss seven games. He suffered a hamstring injury after the team's Thursday night loss vs. the Green Bay Packers, forcing him to miss the next three games. He suffered a torn MCL in Week 14 and was placed on injured reserve, missing the remainder of the season.

Sources: #AZCardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins is having knee surgery on his torn MCL in the coming days and is headed to Injured Reserve. His regular season is over, but if AZ advances deep in the playoffs, Hopkins has a chance to return. He’s looking at likely 6 weeks of recovery.

Before the start of the 2022 season, Hopkins was suspended six games by the NFL for a violation of the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy.

Hopkins is also due a lot of money over the next two seasons. He's due $19.45 million this season and $14.9 million for next season.

Is Deandre Hopkins worth a second-round pick plus more?

When the Arizona Cardinals acquired Deandre Hopkins from the Houston Texans in 2020, they gave up running back David Johnson, a 2020 second-round pick, and a 2021 fourth-round pick.

The Cardinals are now asking for a second-round pick-plus to trade Hopkins.

Despite his injuries and suspension the last two seasons, he's certainly worth the gamble. He recorded over 1,400 yards while scoring six touchdowns in his last full season played in 2021.

Over the last two seasons in 19 games, he's caught 106 passes for 1,289 yards and 11 touchdowns. Hopkins would be the No. 1 WR on many NFL teams and would be a great addition on a Super Bowl contender.
