Odell Beckham Jr 2023 landing spots: Which WR-needy team should make first move for superstar free agent?
Odell Beckham Jr. will once again be part of a free agency novel in 2023, just as he did this season. The superstar wide receiver will be available to sign with any team and, unlike in 2022, when he did not fully recover from a torn ACL, he'll be an object of desire for many teams.
While there's no doubt that Beckham is one of the most talented receivers in the league, his health is going to be a concern. Still, by the time the new season kicks in, it's going to be 19 months since he suffered the injury, so there's going to be more than enough time for a full recovery and getting back to speed.
So, which teams might look at him as a possible receiver option for the 2023 season? There are plenty of franchises, but it must make sense from both a financial and scheme point of view, which limits some of the options.
Chicago Bears: an Odell Beckham Jr. gamble that should pay off
We've seen time and time again how pairing a great wide receiver with a young quarterback can do wonders for his development. Alshon Jeffery was excellent for Carson Wentz, Tyreek Hill was perfect for both Patrick Mahomes and Tua Tagovailoa, and Ja'Marr Chase helped Joe Burrow become a superstar.
Imagine how much Odell would change this Bears' offense, ultra-reliant on Justin Fields running the ball and without a viable option to throw to. The trade for Chase Claypool was a mess, and he has not justified the investment so far. Darnell Mooney also has just one year left on his contract.
Signing Odell Beckham wouldn't hurt the team's salary cap, the biggest in the league for the 2023 season. It would be a valid risk for Fields, also giving you a bigger platform to judge whether he can be your franchise quarterback or not.
The entire offense will improve as a result.
Other landing spots for Odell Beckham Jr.
The Dallas Cowboys might take a look at him - it's no secret that Jerry Jones would love to see Odell play for the Cowboys, while the New York Giants might be looking for a reunion to help Daniel Jones continue to improve.
Whoever wants to sign the receiver needs to know that they're taking a gamble on his talent, but nobody really knows how he's going to return from such a serious injury. At the end of the day, every team would love a receiver with his talent - or, maybe, every team but the Browns.
