Ranking Dallas Cowboys' free agent signings in 2023 ft. Ronald Jones

The Dallas Cowboys have been making relatively big changes to their roster construction during the 2023 NFL offseason. They parted ways with several star players, including running back Ezekiel Elliot and tight end Dalton Schultz, who departed during the free agency period. They also made impactful additions as they make a push toward a Super Bowl appearance this upcoming season.

Two of the biggest acquisitions the Cowboys made this year came via trade. They added two veterans, one on each side of the ball, in Stephon Gilmore and Brandin Cooks in the trade market. They also focused on bringing back several key players who were in pending free agency, including Dante Fowler and Leighton Vander Esch.

While the Dallas Cowboys have been a bit quiet during the 2023 NFL free agency period, they focused on prioritizing keeping as many pieces with the team as possible. They also brought in three outside free agents that will be on their roster for the first time during the 2023 NFL season.

Here's how those three additions rank in order of importance for the Dallas Cowboys' outlook this year.

#3 - Trent Sieg

Trent Sieg was signed by the Dallas Cowboys to assist with their offensive line depth. He is also a long-snapper, so he can contribute to their special teams unit for punts, field goals, and extra point attempts. He will replace Jake McQuaide in this role, who recently signed with the Detroit Lions. Sieg came over from the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency on a one-year deal worth about $1.2 million.

#2 - Ronald Jones

Tony Pollard is expected to feature heavily in the Dallas Cowboys' offense in the 2023 NFL season as their leading running back, especially considering Ezekiel Elliot's departure.

Where Ronald Jones can chip in is on the dirty work between the tackles, including short-yardage situations and goalline scenarios. Elliot handled these duties last season, keeping Pollard fresher for his signature explosive plays.

Jones is an inexpensive low-risk signing, especially considering he's still just 25 years old. He joined the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year contract worth just over $1.2 million after previously spending time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs.

#1 - Chuma Edoga

Chuma Edoga has spent his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets as an offensive lineman. He is now coming over to Dallas to help the Cowboys with their offensive line depth. This was necessary after losing Connor McGovern to the Buffalo Bills in free agency and also choosing not to bring back Jason Peters. Edoga signed a one-year contract worth around $12.3 million.
