Ranking Mike Williams' best landing spots as Jets reportedly put WR on trade block following Davante Adams move
New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams signed with the team as a free agent this offseason, and he could be out of the Big Apple before the season ends. With the Jets acquiring wide receiver Davante Adams this morning via trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, all signs point toward Williams exiting New York.
NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that many people around the league expect Williams to be traded after the team acquired Adams.
Shortly after Anderson's tweet, multiple other NFL sources confirmed that the Jets will make Williams available for trade.
Williams has struggled with the New York Jets this season, recording just 10 catches for 145 yards in six games. Last night's performance against the Buffalo Bills was the second time he recorded zero catches this season.
Williams has had some flashes of being a reliable WR2 in Los Angeles earlier in his career, and maybe a trade can benefit him for the remainder of the year.
Best landing spots for Mike Williams featuring the Kansas City Chiefs
Mike Williams could join the third team of his NFL career in his eighth season if he's traded before the 2024 NFL trade deadline.
Williams has been a quality WR2 for much of his career. In his time with the Los Angeles Chargers, he's had two 1,000-plus yard seasons and averages 15.6 yards per catch.
There are many wide receiver-needy teams in the NFL that could take a look at acquiring Williams.
Here are four landing spots for Mike Williams:
#4. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have been plagued by injuries on offense this season. Before the season started, newly-acquired wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown had a season-ending injury in preseason.
The Chiefs then lost wide receiver Rashee Rice for the season in Week 4 after suffering an LCL injury as Patrick Mahomes hit him, attempting to make a tackle on an interception. Running back Isiah Pacheco was placed on injured reserve in Week 2 with a fractured fibula.
Williams could be a useful deep threat if he could establish that downfield connection with Mahomes.
#3. Dallas Cowboys
Dallas may have more of a rush-attack issue than anything else, but adding a veteran wide receiver in Mike Williams could help elevate their offense.
The Cowboys seem to have found their WR2 opposite of CeeDee Lamb in Jalen Tolbert. After that, it's all a big question mark. Brandin Cooks seems to be showing that his age is slowing down his production, having nine catches and under 100 yards in four games.
KaVontae Turpin, a quality return specialist, only has 129 receiving yards in six games.
Adding Williams could give Dak Prescott a chance to throw to another receiver who could be more productive than what the team has now.
#2. Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh was one of many teams that tried to acquire Davante Adams. It's for good reason.
Through six games this season, the Steelers' wide receiver room has combined for one receiving touchdown. Aside from George Pickens, no other Steelers wide receiver has more than 175 yards this season.
The Steelers' receiving corps has struggled in recent seasons, and with the team cycling through several quarterbacks, adding another option like Williams could provide much-needed help.
#1. Los Angeles Chargers
Home sweet home. Los Angeles drafted Williams in 2017, and he had success with the team during his seven-year tenure. The Chargers know he is still working his way back from the ACL that he tore in Week 3 of the 2023 season, and both sides are very familiar with one another.
Los Angeles could also use a boost at wide receiver as their only wideout through five games with over 200 receiving yards and at least three touchdowns is rookie Ladd McConkey.
Mike Williams could be plugged into Los Angeles' receiving corps as at least the number two receiver by the end of the season.
