Reggie Bush once blasted Donald Trump for offering fast food meal to Clemson’s National Championship winning team
Following their 2019 national championship victory, the Clemson Tigers football team visited the White House, like most champion teams do.
The Tigers defeated the University of Alabama Crimson Tide 44-16 to become champions. A week later, they were greeted by former President Donald Trump, who welcomed the team that included more than 75 players with fast food from McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's, among other places.
Trump was criticized for the food, with many saying that the national champions deserved better than food from cheap fast food places.
One of the people to criticize Trump was former Heisman winning running back Reggie Bush.
Bush reacted to Clemson's White House visit by saying the national champions deserved better and that Trump's food choices were disrespectful to them.
Bush Tweeted:
"Just when you think you’ve seen it all, @ClemsonFB you guys deserve better you are world champs and this is the honor you receive from our nations leader!? This is disrespectful on so many levels, just a huge slap in the face after that kind of performance! SMH!"
Donald Trump paid for the food during Clemson's visit
While the US was in the midst of the longest government shutdown in history, Trump paid for all of the food during the team's White House visit.
Trump said that he bought over 300 hamburgers and a lot of french fries as he thought the team would enjoy some American food.
Trump said:
“Because of the shutdown, you know we have the great Clemson team with us, the national champions. So we went out and we ordered American fast food, paid for by me. Lots of hamburgers, lots of pizza. We have some very large people that like eating. So I think we’re going to have a little fun."
“If it’s American, I like it. It’s all American stuff. 300 hamburgers, many, many french fries – all of our favorite foods.”
Trump then revealed that he could have fed the team salads instead of fast food but figured they'd enjoy fast food more.
He said:
"I had a choice. Do we have no food for you? ... Or do we give you some little quick salads that the First Lady will make, along with the Second Lady — they'll make some salads. (No), I said, you guys aren't into salads."
The team included players such as Trevor Lawrence, Tee Higgins, Travis Etienne, A.J. Terrell, Isiah Simmons, and many others that later joined NFL teams.
