Chiefs trade rumors: Kansas City interested in $97,603,000 star ahead of Nov. 5 deadline

The Kansas City Chiefs are the only undefeated team in the NFL. Sitting at 7-0, the reigning back-to-back champions are aiming for a three-peat, which never occurred in the history of the Super Bowl. Even in a great situation, they are still looking for improvements.

ESPN recently released an article with rumors going around regarding the NFL trade deadline, which is on Tuesday, November 5. According to Adam Schefter, one of the players who could be available is Marshon Lattimore, the star cornerback from the New Orleans Saints.

Schefter points out that the Chiefs have called the Saints to discover the status of the cornerback.

"The Saints have gotten calls about Marshon Lattimore, according to league sources. One of the potential holdups of a deal is Lattimore's health, sources said. The four-time Pro Bowl cornerback is not playing Sunday against the Panthers, but it hasn't stopped teams from calling about him, including the two-time defending champion Chiefs."

This would be the third in-season trade from the defending champions in 2024. They have also traded for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins with the Tennessee Titans for a conditional fifth-round pick, while acquiring Josh Uche from the New England Patriots for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Chiefs depth chart: why is the team looking for cornerbacks?

When comparing the 2024 group to the ones who have been Super Bowl champions in the previous two years, two differences are clear.

First, star cornerback L'Jarius Sneed was traded during the offseason to the Tennessee Titans. The Chiefs were not able to afford a new contract to Sneed, so they orchestrated a deal with the Tennessee Titans. He started 33 out of 34 games for Kansas City in the previous two years, with five interceptions and 25 passes defended during this period.

Former backup cornerback Jaylen Watson became a starter for the defense, but after the Week 7 game, where Kansas City defeated the San Francisco 49ers, it was revealed that Watson suffered a broken tibia and would miss the remainder of the season. He started six games for the team, noting six defended passes.

2022 1st-round pick Trent McDuffie remains their best cornerback. Curiously, he has no interceptions throughout his entire career, but defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo often deploys him as a blitzer. He has four sacks in his NFL career, and allows just 58.3% of completed passes in 2024.
