Is Tom Brady buying Montreal Alouettes? CFL Commissioner breaks silence on NFL GOAT's reported interest
Tom Brady is done playing in the NFL, but he is not hitting the booth yet. So what will he do in the meantime?
If sportscaster Rod Pedersen is to be believed, Brady will expand his image north of the border by buying a CFL team. He revealed on his blog that a source close to Brady had told him that the retired quarterback had applied for ownership of the Montreal Alouettes.
He was told:
“The application is on Randy’s desk!”
But CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie denied those rumors, telling the SportsCage podcast:
“All I can say is I don’t remember talking to Tom Brady at any point during the process so I don’t know where that rumour came from.”
In return, Pedersen claimed that his his report was "no April Fool's joke" and expounded further:
"Three things on Randy’s quote: 1) That’s not a denial, 2) Who said he talked to Brady directly?" Pedersen wrote in his column. And 3) You could see why the CFL wouldn’t want this story to get out because many fans would prefer Tom Brady be involved with the CFL over Quebecor/Pierre Peladeau, the eventual owners of the Alouette
He added:
"God bless you for believing whatever you’re told by those in charge. That’s what theabank on."
What is the CFL, and how does it differ from the NFL?
The Canadian Football League is the primary football league in Canada. It has nine teams - four in the West and five in the East. Each team plays 21 games with three bye weeks from June to November. The top six teams then advance to the playoffs to dispute the Grey Cup, which is one of the country's biggest sporting events.
The CFL differs from the NFL in that it has 12 players at any given time on the field, as opposed to 11. The field is also bigger - 110 yds long and 65 yards wide (as opposed to 100 and 53.5), with 20-yard endzones (as opposed to 10 yards in the NFL), and the goalposts are located at the goal line, rather than at the end line.
Teams also have only three attempts to move the ball at least 10 yards, instead of four.
