NFL Rumors: Andy Reid hints at Chiefs eyeing OBJ as Juju Smith-Schuster replacement

The Kansas City Chiefs have seen a mass exodus of wide receiver talent recently. Tyreek Hill was traded to Miami, JuJu Smith-Schuster is leaving in free agency, Mecole Hardman signed with the New York Jets and many others have come and gone.

Smith-Schuster proved to be a good signing for them last offseason, but he's gone now as it was just a one-year deal. Could the team be looking into signing Odell Beckham Jr.?

Chiefs coach Andy Reid hinted that could be a possibility as the team is in need of reinforcements in that department.

He said via NFL.com:

“Odell is a good football player. Yeah, he does a nice job. So, we’ll see how all that goes.”

Reid also admitted that he knows guys currently on the roster will have to step up in Smith-Schuster and others' absence:

"We are expecting Skyy Moore to step up. We'll just see how everything else works. We got the same guys coming back that we had, and we like that group with the exception of JuJu. Mecole was banged up a little bit so he didn't have a chance to play as much as he would have wanted. We'll work out the thing without JuJu. Somebody will have to step up and take that spot."

Reigning MVP and Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes may have his work cut out for him this season - even more so than in 2022.

What free agent wide receivers can the Chiefs target?

The wide receiver market is pretty thin right now, especially after players like Adam Thielen and Nelson Agholor have already signed elsewhere.

There aren't a lot of proven, reliable targets out there, but this is the class right now:

  • Odell Beckham Jr.
  • Kenny Golloday
  • Randall Cobb
  • Marvin Jones
  • Julio Jones
  • Byron Pringle
  • Jarvis Landry
  • Sammy Watkins
  • Scotty Miller

These weapons would do well with Mahomes throwing to them, but they would be under a lot of pressure as one of the top two targets in the Chiefs' system. They may have to explore a trade or try and draft a wide receiver this year.
