NFL Rumors: Cowboys and Giants emerge as favorites to land Super Bowl-winning wideout

The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys have reportedly emerged as the favorites to sign former Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the wide receiver plans to visit both those teams after Thanksgiving. He was recently in New York at the Giants facility, but it was more to check on Sterling Shepherd after a torn ACL (the same injury Beckham withstood last season), rather than to meet with the brass.

This time, though, it's a scheduled meeting with the intent to talk about a potential contract. This would reunite Beckham with the team he was drafted by in 2013. According to them, the Cowboys have also been aggressive in their pursuit. Owner Jerry Jones was vocal in his intent to sign the receiver recently.

Beckham was traded away from the Giants in 2019 and has no prior history with the Cowboys. Both teams could use him as they gear up for what should be an intense battle for the NFC East. The Philadelphia Eagles are 8-1, the Giants are 7-2 and Dallas is 6-3.

Which team needs Beckham more, the Cowboys or Giants?

The Giants, despite drafting Kadarius Toney (who is no longer with the team) and signing Kenny Golloday to a massive contract, have struggled to find production at wide receiver.

Darius Slayton has carried much of the load, but they desperately need more production from that position group. However, they're still 7-2, so they've been succeeding without it. Dallas, on the other hand, sit behind them at 6-3 and need to leapfrog them. They, unlike the Giants, have seen good production from their wide receivers, but could use some support. They're led by CeeDee Lamb in that group.

They have missed Amari Cooper, who is with the Cleveland Browns now, so signing Beckham makes total sense. Ultimately, his former team needs him the most, but the Cowboys remain a serious contender for his services. With Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly ready to play, it will be interesting to see who manages to sign him. A decision could be made any day.
