NFL Trade Rumors: Bill Belichick’s Patriots considering move for Russell Wilson’s $15M weapon

Bill Belichick serves as both the head coach as well as the general manager of the New England Patriots. This puts him in a unique position, unlike anyone else around the NFL.

He is in charge of building the roster, as well as getting the most out of his players on the field. He's plugged into everything the Patriots do, so he knows their current issue at wide receiver better than anyone.

The Patriots featured one of the worst groups of wide receivers in the entire NFL during the 2022 season. This glaring weakness took yet another hit during the 2023 NFL offseason when they lost Jakobi Meyers to the Las Vegas Raiders during free agency.

With the free agent class of wide receivers relatively weak this year, Bill Belichick has reportedly explored the trade market for available options. One of his potential targets is reportedly Jerry Jeudy, who spent last year with Russell Wilson at the Denver Broncos. He's been rumored to be available if the Broncos receive the right offer.

Dallas traded for Brandin Cooks, but Cleveland continues to pursue possible trade for Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy per source.

New England has also looked into Jeudy but thus far has not been willing to pay requested price tag.

The Broncos are rumored to be seeking a first-round pick in the NFL draft in exchange for Jerry Jeudy. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract ahead of the 2023 NFL season, unless the Broncos decide to execute his fifth-year team option. His dwindling contract and reported desired extension are what prompted the Broncos to explore trade options.

Bill Belichick would be wise to consider making the move as Jeudy would instantly boost their offense. He could be a valuable asset in the development of young quarterback Mac Jones, who regressed during the 2022 NFL season.

Whether it be Jerry Jeudy or someone else, Bill Belichick must seriously consider landing an established wide receiver. Mac Jones regressed in just about every statistical category last year following his promising rookie season. His lack of offensive weapons in the passing game could be one of the reasons why.

Bill Belichick selected Mac Jones in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft with the idea of developing him into a future franchise quarterback. To avoid this pick becoming a bust, he should surround Jones with the most favorable situation to aid his development. One of the best ways to do that is by adding star talent to the wide receiver position.

The issue has already started to be addressed after the Patriots signed JuJu Smith-Schuster during free agency. While this is a step in the right direction, they will likely need to do a bit more than that. Adding a star like Jerry Jeudy would solve the problem, turning a major weakness into a relative strength.
