NFL Trade Rumors: Dan Orlovsky urges surprising team to push for DeAndre Hopkins
Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins is available for all teams to trade for, but so far no team has been able to strike a deal with the Cardinals. The widespread belief around the league is that the Cardinals are asking for a lot in return for Hopkins, and his salary next season remains a big concern.
Teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills have been linked with Hopkins. However, former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky recently stated that the Los Angeles Chargers should also make a move for the star receiver.
Here's what Orlovsky said on ESPN's NFL LIVE:
"If you're a team going into the draft on a pretty big-time playmaking wide receiver and you don't get one, you look to DeAndre Hopkins. If you're in the OBJ sweepstake, you're on the DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes."
"To throw a flyer team out there, just if you are the Los Angeles Chargers and you sit there and go, 'We got a really good roster and we go into the draft and we want a receiver too and they don't, they're not there and they don't get them,' I look at saying, 'Well, and that's DeAndre Hopkins with Mike Williams and Keenan, now we're talking about the ability to push the ball downfield."
The Los Angeles Chargers have a pretty good offensive unit. If they are able to add DeAndre Hopkins as well, that could separate them from the rest of the NFL. Former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is now with the Chargers, and he is likely to elevate Justin Herbert's game.
Whether the Chargers will make a move for Hopkins remains to be seen as getting him won't be easy. But the idea of Justin Herbert playing alongside Ekeler, Williams, Allen, and Hopkins could be enticing to many.
DeAndre Hopkins could be released by the Cardinals
If the Cardinals are unable to find a team that is willing to trade for Hopkins, then they could be forced to release him. If Hopkins is released, then we can expect the other teams to aggressively pursue him.
Despite his unavailability issues over the past few seasons, the Cardinals receiver has proven himself to be a game-changer. He will undoubtedly improve any team's chances of contending for the Super Bowl, so all eyes are on him as everyone waits to see where he plays next season.
