NFL Trade Rumors: Former GM pegs Sean Payton's Broncos to land superstar RB

Sean Payton, the new Denver Broncos head coach, has already begun preparing for the upcoming season, hoping to restore the franchise to its rightful place. The Broncos had a 5-12 record last season, but that didn't stop them from bringing in good players through free agency.

So far, the organization has signed Ben Powers, Jarrett Stidham, Mike McGlinchey, Chris Manhertz, Zach Allen, Samaje Perine, Mike Burton, and Tremon Smith. They are now being linked with a move for a superstar running back who plays in their division.

Former general manager of the New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins, Randy Mueller, thinks that Payton might pull the trigger on a trade for Los Angeles Chargers' Austin Ekeler.

“I think some place like Denver where Sean Payton is going to put in and look for an Alvin Kamara," Mueller told Heavy. "A guy like that to play on third-downs, to do some things in the passing game.”

Austin Ekeler is available in the market after the Los Angeles Chargers granted him permission to speak with teams about a possible trade. Several teams will be vying for the Chargers running back, who had the most touchdowns of any player last season.

Ekeler would undoubtedly be a good fit for the Denver Broncos since Sean Payton enjoys working with players of his caliber, as evidenced by his time with the Saints and his usage of Alvin Kamara.

Last season, Ekeler had 204 carries for 915 yards and scored 18 touchdowns in 17 games. He also had 722 yards on receptions and five receiving touchdowns.

The Broncos brought in Sean Payton to clean up the wreckage that was caused last season. The Russell Wilson-Nathaniel Hackett experiment did not go well for the team, and Payton now faces a difficult assignment.

Jerry Jeudy may also get traded before the season begins as teams have expressed interest in him, and that would make things worse for them.

With Wilson pitching in to get Payton as the new head coach, there is excitement around the team, but it will be very interesting to see how they perform under the former Saints head coach.
