NFL Trade Rumors: Insider delivers major update on Cooper Kupp's future amid rumors of Chiefs interest
Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams is recovering from an ankle injury. While he hasn't shone much on a 2-4 team through Week 7, the story is flipped for the Kansas City Chiefs. They are undefeated with a 6-0 record despite a lack of firepower on offense.
Three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes is struggling, and the offense is banged up with Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown, and Isiah Pacheco nursing injuries. Could Cooper Kupp be the answer to their offensive woes?
According to Yahoo Sports senior NFL reporter Charles Robinson, there are rumors that the Rams are looking to trade Kupp. Addressing the Chiefs' alleged interest in Kupp, NFL insider Dianna Russini said that might not be the case:
"If the Rams are willing to take on the salary I've heard they're willing to do, they are definitely open to trading Cooper Kupp, so we'll see if they'll be able to get a deal done.
"I just don't think Kansas City has enough money even if the Rams were able to take on some of that salary. That's been a problem and the reason why they haven't been able to go after a Davante Adams or a Amari Cooper."
The Chiefs still have Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce, and they even brought in Kareem Hunt to replace Pacheco, but the team could use a proven wideout like Cooper Kupp. However, their tight budget will make this hard.
When will Cooper Kupp return to the gridiron?
Cooper Kupp is expected to play in the Rams' upcoming outing against the Minnesota Vikings on TNF, as stated by Rams HC Sean McVay.
"It was about return to performance, not necessarily return to play," McVay said about Kupp playing last Sunday. "And hopefully Thursday will represent that for us." (H/T ESPN)
Speaking about his teammate's return, QB Matthew Stafford told reporters that he was pumped about it.
"He's missing being out there, so I'm excited for him," Stafford said. "Excited for our offense, our team. He's a great player and those guys are tough to come by, so when you can get him back, it's always a great thing. I think it's great for that room, too. I mean, just having his presence around, guys love being around him and working with him." (H/T ESPN)
Can Kupp manage to turn the tide for the Rams and hand the Vikings their second defeat of the season?
