NFL Trade Rumors: Jets considering dealing 31-TD WR after pulling off Davante Adams trade
Could New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams be out of New York soon? The Jets made a big move this morning by adding wide receiver Davante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The move reunites Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers with one of his former wide receivers, as Adams and Rodgers played together in Green Bay from 2014-2021.
Williams signed as a free agent with the team this offseason but has struggled in his return on the field after suffering a Week 3 ACL tear last season.
NFL insider Josina Anderson said that some high-level sources are wondering if Williams will be available for trade, given that the team added Adams.
"Some high-level league sources are currently wondering whether the trade for Davante Adams will put #Jets WR Mike Williams on the market and what the price would be to encourage a deal."
Williams has certainly struggled this season. He's been present for all of New York's six games and has 10 catches for 145 yards.
With Adams, Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard being the Jets' top-three wide receivers, the Jets could look to move on from Williams before the trade deadline.
Mike Williams was part of a costly interception in the Jets' loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night
As the New York Jets were trailing the Buffalo Bills 23-20 with 2:00 left in last night's game, Aaron Rodgers threw the game-sealing interception as Taron Johnson picked him off.
Rodgers was looking to complete a deep pass to Mike Williams, but there was miscommunication during the play, leading to an interception. Williams awkwardly tried to adjust but to the ball on the pass and slipped up, causing an easier pick for Johnson.
After the game, Rodgers talked about the interception:
“It was two verticals,” Rodgers said. “Allen [Lazard is] down the seam, Mike’s down the red line. So I’m looking at Allen, he puts his hand up, three guys go with him. So I’m throwing a no-look to the red line. And when I just peek my eyes back there, he’s running an in-breaker. So. Um, it’s gotta be down the red line.”
Last night's game was the second this season that Williams had a goose egg, not recording a single catch.
Mike Williams has had a few 1,000-yard seasons in his career and has scored 10 touchdowns in a single season. Maybe a change of scenery could help the wide receiver.
