NFL Trade Rumors: Justin Fields pitted as possible Tom Brady replacement for Buccaneers

Will the Chicago Bears trade Justin Fields, the number-one overall pick, or not?

The team has a big decision to make as they hoist the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

2023 NFL Draft Order from Las Vegas:
1. Chicago
2. Houston
3. Arizona
4. Indianapolis
5. Seattle (from Denver)
6. Detroit(from LA Rams)
7. Las Vegas
8. Atlanta
9. Carolina
10. Philadelphia (from New Orleans)
11. Tennessee
12. Houston(from Cleveland)
13. NY Jets
14. New England

Via heavy.com, an article by DJ Siddiqi and Josh Edwards of CBS suggested that the Bears take the quarterback with the first overall pick, leaving the QB-needy teams to trade for Fields.

“In this hypothetical, Chicago has taken a quarterback No. 1 overall. One of the perceived top-three quarterback prospects (Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud and Kentucky’s Will Levis) is off the board, which leaves quarterback-needy teams like Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Carolina and potentially Detroit and Seattle jockeying for those available players. The aforementioned teams that do not land one of those three rookie quarterbacks could be interested in Fields. Tampa Bay and Washington are a few others that may also be in the mix.”

If Chicago does in fact decide to select a new QB and trade Fields, he will have interest from teams such as the Buccaneers, Commanders, Colts, Panthers, Raiders, and others. It's all speculation and rumors as of now, but anyone can guess who is interested or would be interested in Fields if he does end up in trade talks.

The Bucs are taking a long shot at acquiring a QB in the off-season. As they will have big shoes to fill for Tom Brady, the team could be patient and wait to draft a QB with their first-round pick.

The Chicago Bears are reportedly committed to Justin Fields

While there will be rumors until the first overall pick is selected, analysts and the media will create chatter about the Bears potentially trading Justin Fields as the number-one overall pick.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles and the team seem committed to Fields, and it seems unlikely they will trade the quarterback.

Poles spoke to the media shortly after the regular season:

“I’m excited for the direction he’s going. He knows where he has to improve. We’re excited about his development and where he goes next. He showed ability to be impactful with his legs. There are flashes with his arm. Now if we can put that together, I think we have something really good.”
For @WatchMarquee: Ryan Poles entered Year 1 feeling optimistic about the future of his young quarterback. As he looks towards this pivotal offseason, that belief has been strengthened. It's why the Bears' plans are set around hopes for Justin Fields. bit.ly/3HX6Liw

Poles also said that the team will be heading into 2023 with Fields as the starter and that he would be absolutely blown away by another QB prospect if he selected one. That doesn't rule out that possibility, but it seems like Fields' job is safe for now.

The team has the most cap space in free agency on top of owning the number-one overall pick. Things could be bright for the future of Chicago if they make the right moves this off-season.
