NFL Trade Rumors: Kay Adams predicts AFC team to trade up and make splash at Anthony Richardson in 2023 NFL Draft
Kay Adams has a major prediction for the 2023 NFL Draft.
Speaking on her FanDuel TV program Up & Adams, the sportscaster predicted that the Las Vegas Raiders would trade up for the chance to choose Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson:
"I've been reading the tea leaves a litte bit guys, sort of combing through the circumstantial evidence, amd I'm growing more and more convinced [that] we're going to see a dark horse team move up and snag one of these top quarterbacks though. Let's get into it. I'm growing more and more convinced that team is - the Vegas Raiders. Las Vegas Raiders."
She added:
"They currently hold guys the seventh overall pick remember they signed Jimmy G. That's a significant deal… but everything we're hearing tells me that they are not done… and if I had to guess who the target is,'I'm going to put my money on the Marvel superhero named Anthony Richardson. I've been saying it all along: go big, big swing. Best upside. That's what you want to do."
The Raiders are entering their first year without Derek Carr, whom they benched, then cut amidst inconsistent play. Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be their new starter, however, his injury history will make Las Vegas still want to draft another quarterback just in case. And Richardson would fit that bill, while also giving the franchise a potential future face.
How good was Anthony Richardson at Florida?
Anthony Richardson spent three years in Florida, from 2020 to 2022. As a freshman, he appeared in only four games, as he redshirted the rest of the year.
In his sophomore year, he initially backed up Emory Jones, but soon created a quarterback controversy by performing very well in relief against South Florida and spearheading a 42-40 win. In that game, he completed all his passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on four carries.
After Jones transferred to Arizona State, Richardson became the starter in 2022 and had a huge year, passing for over 2,500 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also rushed for 654 yards and nine touchdowns, most notably leading Gainesville to a 29-26 upset of the seventh ranked Utah Utes in head coach Billy Napier's debut with the school.
