NFL Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Rams cutting another veteran as part of McVay's rebuild

The Los Angeles Rams were on top of the world about 13 months ago. They celebrated their second Super Bowl victory in franchise history as they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20.

Many expected them to have a strong 2022-2023 season, but due to many key injuries, the team finished with a lousy 5-12 record.

As the team will head in a different direction for the 2023 season, they have already started to rebuild their roster. ESPN reporter Adam Schefter reported on Monday morning that the team is expected to release outside linebacker Leonard Floyd.

Rams are expected to release OLB Leonard Floyd if they cannot trade him first, per league sources. Floyd has had at least nine sacks in each of the past three seasons.

The team will try to trade him before releasing him, but if they can't find a trade partner then he is expected to be released.

However, the Rams would save just $3 million in 2023 if they released him now and would have $19 million in dead money. With a post-June 1 designation, they would get $15.5 million in cap space and spread his dead cap over two years.

If the Rams just release Leonard Floyd, it would create $3M in 2023 cap space, while leaving $19M in dead money.

The team will likely cut Floyd post-June 1 to create more room but will try to trade him to another team. He's recorded nine-plus sacks in each of the last three seasons and could garner some trade interest.

It's no surprise that the Los Angeles Rams are moving on from outside linebacker Leonard Floyd. He has become the latest veteran that the team is looking to get rid of heading into the 2023 season.

Over a week ago, the team released All-Pro linebacker, Bobby Wagner, one year into his five-year $65 million contract.

There were then reports that the team is likely to trade All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey this off-season. Ramsey has three years left under contract, but is expected to be out of LA this off-season.

Yesterday, the team reported that they are open to trading wide receiver Allen Robinson. Like Wagner, Robinson joined the team in 2022 and the franchise is ready to move him after one season.

The Rams will look like a much different team next season and will look to get younger as they start their rebuild.
