NFL Trade Rumors: Matthew Stafford’s Rams linked with move for high-profile Saints WR

The Los Angeles Rams may be coming off their worst season since before Sean McVay was hired, but that doesn't mean they're done making big moves. That is at least what NFL analyst Jared Dublin believes.

In an article published on CBS Sports, Dubin explained why the team moving to book New Orleans Saints receiver Michael Thomas would be smart.

Here's how he put it, first explaining why the Rams would be interested:

"I'd like to see them run it back with another recently injured but also very talented wideout in Thomas. He should cost less than Robinson did a year ago, which should help the Rams be able to afford him."

Will Matthew Stafford be throwing to Michael Thomas in 2023?

It would be a big swing for the franchise, but the Rams are not a team that's afraid to go all-in. Their moves to get Matthew Stafford or overhaul their defense during the Jared Goff era prove that in spades.

Top cap hits in the NFL in 2023:

3) #Chiefs Patrick Mahomes $46.7m
4) #Bills Josh Allen - $39.7M
5) #Titans Ryan Tannehill - $36.6M

The biggest cap hit for 2024 is #Saints WR Michael Thomas with $59.4M https://t.co/blNqj9ZKoe

Potential Rams WR Michael Thomas looks to revive career since catching injury bug

From 2016 until 2019, the New Orleans Saints looked like draft phenoms. Between Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara, the team gave Drew Brees a top one-two punch in the NFL. While Kamara has remained reliably available, Thomas has seen an implosion in production.

From 2016 until 2019, the receiver earned at least 1,100 yards in every season. He even improved from a baseline of 1137 yards in his rookie season to 1,725 yards. However, since then, Thomas has mustered up just roughly 600 yards in two seasons (2020 and 2022).

Now just barely on the plus side of 30, the receiver is hoping to jump back out on the gridiron with a new lease on life before it's too late. Will Thomas be able to salvage his career in the 11th hour of his prime? Sean McVay and Los Angeles Rams could be his last hope.
