NFL Trade Rumors: Panthers shut the door on enquiries on $21,112,146 CB after Diontae Johnson trade
The Carolina Panthers aren't trying to blow up their roster despite trading Diontae Johnson to the overpowered Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday.
The NFC South franchise has only won one game this season. Their seven losses and zero chance of reaching the playoffs means they would like to enter another rebuilding process.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that, despite interest from several franchises, the Panthers aren't interested in shipping two of their most intriguing players. These are cornerback Jaycee Horn and running back Chubba Hubbard.
"Sources: Despite teams calling about them, the #Panthers have no plans on trading CB Jaycee Horn or RB Chuba Hubbard.
“'They’re not having a firesale',” a source said."
The Panthers have some interesting pieces on the roster, but they value these two so much that they aren't willing to give up on them.
Horn signed a four-year, $21,112,146 contract with the Panthers in 2021, which included a $12,714,288 signing bonus after being selected eighth overall in that year's draft (per Spotrac).
Jaycee, son of former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Horn, has excelled in his position despite not playing for the strongest team in the NFL. He's played eight games in 2024, recording 34 tackles and one interception.
Carolina is still wandering around, as not even bringing Dave Canales in has helped them improve.
The young coach named Bryce Young the starter for the Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos. The second-year quarterback had a solid game, recording 224 passing yards for two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Young still has a lot to learn, but if the front office puts the right pieces around him, this player could bounce back and lead this project. Then again, several things must happen before they reach that point.
Fans called out Panthers over return in Diontae Johnson trade
The Baltimore Ravens completed a terrific move for Diontae Johnson, who wasn't Bryce Young's favorite option in Carolina. They have now put him in the same room with Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman, to name a few.
Upon learning about his move, fans blasted the NFC franchise for letting one of their stars go just like that. They weren't happy knowing that all it took was a fifth-round pick for Johnson. To make things worse, the team gave the Ravens their 2025 sixth-rounder.
While Baltimore added more firepower to their offense, this move doesn't seem to benefit Carolina.
