Will Jets ditch Davante Adams trade with Robert Saleh fired? NFL insider outlines where things stand
Davante Adams' trade request this time last week served as a reminder that anything can happen in the National Football League. As if we needed any more reminders, the New York Jets made sure we wouldn't forget after they fired Robert Saleh first thing Tuesday morning.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will take over as interim head coach with Saleh gone. One major question on everyone's minds following this change was whether the Jets would pull out of the Adams trade sweepstakes.
However, NFL insider Jordan Schultz believes otherwise.
"Robert Saleh's firing should not affect the Jets' interest in trading for Davante Adams," Schultz reported on social media platform X. "The Jets want him just as much as Davante wants them."
Davante Adams trade: When could we see Raiders All-Pro switch teams?
After the Jets' 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in an early kickoff in London on Sunday, multiple NFL insiders reported that a trade would accelerate in the 48 hours that would follow.
However, we are yet to see any traction on the Raiders trading Davante Adams, though the franchise appears to have made its peace with the fact that they will have to deal their All-Pro away sooner rather than later.
This week, Pierce was asked by reporters about whether he could pinpoint where things went wrong between Adams and the franchise. The Raiders head coach said:
"I don't know. You'd have to ask Davante."
Pierce added that as things stand, it's "status quo" on Adams being traded.
Which teams are battling the Jets to pull off a Davante Adams trade?
Right after Adams asked to be traded away from Sin City, Sportskeeda's NFL insider Tony Pauline reported that there were four teams interested in pulling off a major deal for the All-Pro wide receiver - the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers missed out on Brandon Aiyuk, who chose to sign a long-term extension with the San Francisco 49ers whereas the Bills lost Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis in free agency. A move to the Saints would see Adams reunited with Derek Carr while the appeal of a move to the Jets is there for all to see.
