San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams: Box score, stats and summary feat. Brock Purdy, Matthew Stafford
The San Francisco 49ers took on the Los Angeles Rams, with both seeking wins to get their 2024 NFL seasons back on track. Both teams made the playoffs last year and were looking to do better this year, especially as they have established quarterbacks to build around.
But the Rams started poorly, losing both their opening games. The 49ers started with a demolition of the Jets but lost to the Vikings in Week 2. The two NFC West rivals needed their players to take charge and change the narrative in Week 3 and this is how it turned out.

49ers vs. Rams game summary
The 49ers and the Rams played out a thrilling game that showed the ability of both coaches to call a great offensive game. But there will be questions about Kyle Shanahan's game management after the 49ers lost in the fourth quarter to the Rams, especially following San Francisco's overtime loss in last year's Super Bowl.
In the first quarter, the 49ers started well with Brock Purdy throwing two touchdown passes to Jauan Jennings in their first two drives. The Rams were kept scoreless as they had consecutive punts.
In the second quarter, Los Angeles found a bit more of their groove and had their first touchdown. They had a chance toward the end of the second quarter to go on another drive after a recovered fumble but failed to do so. The teams went into the break with San Francisco leading 14-7.
The third quarter showcased that there was not much between the teams. Jauan Jennings scored his third touchdown to give the 49ers a 21-7 lead, but the Rams came right back in the next play to cut the score to 21-14.
A pair of field goals from each team made the score 24-17, but then kicker Jake Moody missed an attempt. Just like his missed extra point in last season's Super Bowl loss proved pivotal, it was to be a turning point.
Because in the very next drive, Los Angeles scored a touchdown to tie the scores at 24-24. Another punt by San Francisco on their next drive allowed the Rams to go and score a field goal within the two-minute warning. With seconds left in the game, the 49ers could not recover to either win outright or force overtime.
The Rams and 49ers are now both 1-2 but the mood in both camps will be palpably different.
