“Scarier than rabid barking dogs” – When Eagles fans were ripped by Rob Riggle at NFL Honors show

Philadelphia Eagles fans are notorious for their fandom. A fan base that has literally booed Santa Clause and done some pretty outrageous things throughout the years. In 2018, comedian Rob Riggle took a dig at Philly fans, and it may have been against his better judgment.

Ahead of Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Philadelphia faced the New England Patriots, Riggle hosted the 2018 NFL Honors ceremony. He asked the audience that was filled with NFL players, celebrities and fans if they were excited for the Super Bowl.

While everyone agreed, he said that he knew Philly fans were especially excited. He noted that they have truly embraced the underdog mindset by wearing dog masks. He then said that the only thing scarier than a rabid barking dog is a regular Philadelphia Eagles fan:

"Who's excited? Everybody's excited, right? I know the Eagles fans are excited. Philly fans have really embraced their underdog status. You've all seen the dog masks that these guys are wearing, right? Kind of intimidating, but you know what's scarier than rabid barking dogs? Regular Eagles fans."-Rob Riggle

The reaction to Riggle's joke was a mixed one among everyone in the room, with some being unsure how to react to a fanbase being compared to a rabid dog.

How many times have the Philadelphia Eagles been to the Super Bowl?

The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII this Sunday. Philly won their first Lombardi Trophy in 2017 with a win over the New England Patriots.

Throughout their long history, how many times has Philly made it to the big game?

Philadelphia has won the conference championship a total of five times. The first being in 1960, when it was known as the NFL Eastern Conference, and then the NFC in 1980, 2004, 2017 and 2022.

5 years ago today, the Eagles paraded down Broad Street as Super Bowl Champions for the first time.

It ended with one of the greatest speeches in sports history.

It wasn't until 2017 against the New England Patriots that Philly hoisted the Lombardi and brought a Super Bowl title back to the "City of Brotherly Love."

After years of anguish, Philly fans embraced the win and will now get to experience another Super Bowl appearance this season. Will it take another "Philly special" type of play to lead them to the win? Fans will just have to wait and see how it all plays out against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend.
