Bijan Robinson draft projection: Will Texas RB slip down for Eagles' selection?
Without a doubt, Bijan Robinson is the top running back prospect in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. There are several ideal landing spots for the former Texas Longhorns star, and the Philadelphia Eagles are one of those teams.
The Eagles have a great running back in Miles Sanders, who rushed for 1,269 yards (fifth-best in the NFL) and 11 touchdowns (seventh-best) last season. However, he is a free agent this offseason and could wind up leaving for a huge payday somewhere else.
Backup running back Boston Scott is also a free agent, meaning the Eagles will definitely need help at the position if one or both of those players leave town.
Robinson was nothing short of spectacular during his time at Texas. Last season, he ranked fourth in the nation with 18 rushing touchdowns and fifth in rushing yards (1,580). He also came through as a receiver, producing 19 catches for 314 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Robinson earned the prestigious Doak Walker Award, given to the best running back in college football, for his efforts. Only three other players—Ricky Williams (who won it twice), Cedric Benson, and D'Onta Freeman—have won it in Longhorns history.
Robinson came in behind winner Caleb Williams and other athletes like Max Duggan, C.J. Stroud, and Bryce Young to finish ninth in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Bijan Robinson would flourish with Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles currently own two first-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. They could draft Robinson with the 10th overall pick (from the New Orleans Saints), which may be a little too high for a running back, or take him at No. 30 if he's still available at that spot.
If Sanders leaves in free agency and Philadelphia does indeed land Robinson, the dynamic running back would fit in nicely with superstar Jalen Hurts and Co. The 2022 Eagles were easily one of the league's top running teams, ranking fifth in the league with 2,509 rushing yards. Adding Robinson to the mix would make them even more dangerous.
Philly was fantastic last season, finishing with the NFL's best record and going all the way to the Super Bowl, although they fell to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. By drafting Bijan Robinson this year, the team could have a similar season in 2023 or maybe even win it all.
