“Your arrogance blinds you” - Shannon Sharpe quotes Emperor Palpatine in scathing response to Cam Newton’s ranking

Cam Newton made headlines recently when he listed with the current NFL quarterbacks he would be a backup for. On "Undisputed," Shannon Sharpe called out Newton, saying that the free-agent signal-caller isn't in a position to list where he wants to play this season. Sharpe drove home his point with a quote from Emperor Palpatine of "Star Wars" fame.

Sharpe said:

"You think because you say something on YouTube or you put it out on social media with the fancy thought that these teams like, 'Man, you hear what Cam said? He'd backup Deshaun. He'd backup Lamar Jackson. He'd backup this and that one. Let's get on the phone and call him up.' Your arrogance blinds you."
"Cam needs to put the camera down. The problem I have with Cam is that, if arrogance is suffocating, this man was out of the entire NFL last year, and then he comes in with a wishlist. These are the teams or these are the players."

Sharpe concluded:

"'I don't have a job, but I'm only willing to work for Apple, Google, Microsoft, JP Morgan. Amazon, Salesforce, American Express, Wells Fargo, Walmart and Target. I don't have a job. I don't get to call the shots.' Cam, do you realize this?"
"How many teams called you last year? You tell me what you're willing to do. Oh, this is what I do. How many teams have called you in now?"

Cam Newton last played in the NFL in the 2021 season for the Carolina Panthers. Carolina was the same team that drafted him number one overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. The former Auburn Tigers star played one season for the New England Patriots in 2020.

Some of the QBs Cam Newton is willing to backup this upcoming season

On his YouTube channel, the quarterback was quite specific on his list of quarterbacks he'd be a backup for this upcoming season. The former NFL MVP listed MVPs such as Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson, along with Deshaun Watson, Justin Fields, and Jalen Hurts.

Cam Newton also named three of the top quarterback prospects in this year's NFL Draft class: Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, and C.J. Stroud. Time will tell if an NFL team reaches out to the All-Pro quarterback to see him back in the league come the 2023 season.
