Shannon Sharpe’s cameo on American Dad was undisputedly top-tier
Shannon Sharpe is one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history who made his way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He later entered the world of television as an analyst turned co-host of the Fox Sports 1 show Undisputed.
Back in 2011, Sharpe made a cameo on the show American Dad in a different role: freelance alien hunter. The Hall of Famer was introduced to CIA agents Stan Smith, Dick Reynolds, Jackson, and John Sanders.
Reynolds spoke to Sharpe after meeting him for the first time. Below is the dialog between the two of them on the show:
Dick: "Shannon Sharpe! The football guy?!"
Sharpe: "Yeah. I hunt aliens now. Used to catch TDs, now I catch ETs."
Dick: "You ever caught an alien, Shannon?"
Sharpe: "Not yet Mr. Question, but I'll let you know when I do."
In the American Dad episode entitled, The Scarett Getter, CIA Deputy Director Bullock says they are bringing in Shannon Sharpe to get their previously escaped alien.
When Stan meets Roger the Alien at a nearby coffee shop to warn him, he sees an old crush named Scarlett. Roger takes an interest in Scarlett and hints at taking her out on a date.
However, Stan invited Scarlett over to his house for dinner. Smith's wife, Francine, is annoyed with Stan gushing over Scarlett and heads to Roger's Place for a drink. As Sharpe is still on the hunt for Roger, he gets a tip of the alien's whereabouts.
Shannon Sharpe's character takes a massive turn
Stan decided to tell Sharpe about Roger, leading him to the ski cottage Roger had taken Scarlett. At the ski chalet, Stan and Sharpe showed up, only to find Scarlett by herself. Sharpe informed Smith that Scarlett was a rival alien hunter who had been following Roger as well.
Next, Scarlett shoots Sharpe and ties up Smith to a chair as he observed her shooting Sharpe. Once everything is cleared up, Smith plants a knife in Sharpe's hand and adjusts a picture on the wall to make it look like a suicide.
When the police detectives arrived, they assumed that Sharpe shot himself, moved the picture, took the knife and died.
Overall, Shannon Sharpe's cameo made the episode stand out and was one of the best performances in the show's history.
