Should I drop Deebo Samuel? Week 6 TNF Fantasy projection for 49ers WR

Deebo Samuel hasn't quite lived up to expectations this season for some fantasy football managers. After putting up just 11 yards against the Arizona Cardinals, some managers are thinking about the nuclear option. However, if you are and at least took the time to look for a second opinion, pat yourself on the back. Let's take a look at whether Samuel deserves firing from your fantasy football team.

Should I drop Deebo Samuel for Week 6 fantasy football?

Put simply, in a word, no! Even if you have lost belief in the San Francisco 49ers star receiver, most opponents in your league have not. As such, trading him makes much more sense than an outright drop. However, even this move might be premature.

Most of Deebo Samuel's struggles in Week 5 could be written off as a symptom of one thing. The 49ers knew they had to face the division-leading Seattle Seahawks in Week 6 and they had the perennial struggling Arizona Cardinals in Week 5. Put simply, Samuel and the rest of the 49ers most likely overlooked the Cardinals in favor of the Seahawks and it cost them.

Deebo Samuel fantasy outlook for rest of 2024 season

Deebo Samuel hasn't quite lit the world on fire this season, but he has been productive. Samuel has earned more than 100 yards in a game only once this season and arguably hasn't been 100% healthy since missing the team's Sept. 22 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Samuel hasn't had the best two-week stretch, but as the team's top receiver, he is at worst a bench player or a trade option. Dropping him will lead to an immediate scoop-up and perhaps one of the biggest mistakes of your fantasy football season.

Put simply, expect a rebound against the Seattle Seahawks and a return to form against the Cowboys and Buccaneers in late October and early November. The Buccaneers have been a turnstile on defense as evidenced by Kirk Cousins' breakout game. Samuel should see plenty of work against the Chiefs on Oct. 20 as well, as Brock Purdy chases Patrick Mahomes.

If there isn't a turnaround in October, it might be time to cut him loose through a trade or a drop. However, considering his historical production, dropping him to take your chances on the waiver wire is a massive gamble.
