Should the Indianapolis Colts select Will Levis in the 2023 NFL Draft?

The Indianapolis Colts have been searching for a quarterback. Perhaps Will Levis could be the answer for the franchise.

Levis, a star QB out of Kentucky, is expected to go top-10 in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Colts currently have the fifth overall pick. They will likely have the opportunity to use that pick on the Madison, Connecticut native.

Heading into this season, the Colts were predicted to win the AFC South and reach the Super Bowl for the first time in 13 years. Unfortunately, none of these predictions came true. At 4-11-1, they currently have the second worst record in the division. They have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

Indy needs to address several areas in the draft. But finding a franchise quarterback like Levis should certainly be their top priority. In today's NFL, it's extremely difficult to win without a high-quality QB running your team.

Levis is coming off a decent, but not spectacular, two-year tenure at Kentucky. In 2021, he recorded 2,826 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. This past season, he threw for 2,406 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Fellow QB draft prospects like Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud put up much better numbers than Levis. It's worth nothing that Levis wasn’t exactly provided with NFL-caliber teammates at the skill positions.

His potential is through the roof. He has a combination of size (6-foot-3), athleticism and arm strength.

Would Will Levis emerge as a star with the Indianapolis Colts?

One of the most painful moments in Colts history was when Andrew Luck retired right before the 2019 regular season. The decision came out of nowhere and put the franchise in a vulnerable position.

The team has endured a quarterback carousel since Luck’s departure. Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers, and Carson Wentz have made starts for Indy. This season, Matt Ryan—who was benched twice—Sam Ehlinger and Nick Foles have all started games.

Ryan, who was acquired last March to replace Wentz, was supposed to be an impact player this season. Unfortunately, the former MVP has looked like a shell of his former self.

Is Levis a long-term quarterback solution for Indy?

In Indy, Levis would have offensive weapons around him like wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr., Parris Campbell (if he re-signs) and Alec Pierce. Running back Jonathan Taylor would also be a difference maker if he stays healthy.

If the Colts hire an offensive-minded coach like Eric Bieniemy or Shane Steichen, the sky is the limit for the Kentucky Wildcats signal-caller.
