Should you trade Garrett Wilson? Week 5 fantasy outlook for Jets WR

If you spend a round one pick on Garrett Wilson (like literally everyone who picked him), you have reason to be aggrieved. And we hear you. Through four weeks of football, Wilson has not yet clicked with Aaron Rodgers and the Week 4 loss to the Denver Broncos certainly didn't help Wilson's fantasy outlook.

With a few daunting matchups ahead, should you bite the bullet and trade Garrett Wilson?

Should I trade Garrett Wilson?

In all fairness, Week 4 wasn't a matchup for Wilson to exploit. There's not much to this Denver Broncos team and their offense hasn't clicked yet but Vance Joseph has made sure the defense remains a respectable unit. In the 10-9 loss to Denver on Sunday, Joseph's defense restricted the Jets to a mere 248 yards. They also sacked Aaron Rodgers five times and the four-time NFL MVP hobbled off at the end of the game.

Having Pat Surtain Jr. shadowing Wilson all afternoon meant the Broncos kept a check on the Jets' alpha receiver. All in all, Wilson caught five of his eight targets for 41 yards in addition to a fumble. The weather conditions could also have contributed to a stale Jets offense but there were some signs of discord between Rodgers and Saleh after the game.

But if we're looking ahead, Wilson's matchups don't get any better.

Week 5 will see the Jets face a watertight Vikings defense. Under Brian Flores, Minnesota has made it a point to lock down receivers so Week 5 may not be the type of matchup where Wilson delivers WR1 points. The week after may be some cause for optimism but the Buffalo Bills are not exactly a leaky pass defense.

The Jets will then face the Steelers (good luck with going up against Joey Porter Jr.) and the Patriots (good luck going up against Christian Gonzalez). Of all the ones we just listed, Wilson's best shot at a load of points may be the Patriots.

Considering Wilson is currently WR39 in PPR leagues, you'd be forgiven if you're considering trading him away. Even Allen Lazard is WR18.

All things said and done, we're inclined toward being patient with Garrett Wilson.

His fantasy outlook entirely depends on Aaron Rodgers and the four-time NFL MVP will figure this out sooner rather than later.
