Should you trade Tyreek Hill? Week 3 Fantasy outlook and projection for Dolphins WR

Week 2 was pretty rough, fantasy-wise. We saw a laundry list of injuries and several top performers end up on or near Injured Reserve. All of Puka Nacua, Christian McCaffrey and Hollywood Brown are currently on the list. More bad news cascaded down from Week 2 after the Miami Dolphins placed Tua Tagovailoa on IR on Tuesday afternoon. With Tua out and Skylar Thompson taking his place under center, where does that leave Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle? More importantly, should you trade Hill given the state of the Dolphins offense?

Here's everything you need to consider before proposing or accepting a trade for the Dolphins speedster.

Tyreek Hill's fantasy outlook after Tua Tagovailoa's concussion

Through two weeks of football, Hill's stats don't make for the most impressive reading but they're not all bad. Hill has 10 receptions for 154 yards and one touchdown.

But here's where it gets a little sticky. Per StatMuse, Hill averages 8.6 targets for 75.1 yards per game and a mere 0.3 receiving touchdowns. Those are dire numbers for a WR of Hill's caliber.

Miami's run game didn't suffer as much but the step down from a $212 million quarterback is likely to hit the offense hard otherwise. At this point, it doesn't make too much sense to have Hill as your WR1. Waddle's fantasy outlook takes a more dramatic hit than Hill's and that's just the beginning.

One look at the Dolphins' coming schedule also adds another layer to this consideration. Miami goes up against the Seahawks, Titans and Patriots next before a bye week in Week 6. Those aren't the worst matchups but the Titans defense has been a lockdown unit so far.

Should you trade Tyreek Hill?

This is a tough time to have either Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle on your roster. You could put your faith in Mike McDaniel coaching the offense and having Skylar Thompson keep it ticking. But that's just not a realistic return. It also stymies Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle's game. If you have De'Von Achane on your roster, you're still golden. But Hill's fantasy outlook without Tua Tagovailoa under center does not make for happy reading.

Sure, they signed one-time Pro Bowler Tyler Huntley off the Ravens' practice squad but at this point, that's just Miami bringing some QB insurance to town.

It makes sense to trade Tyreek Hill at this point despite the possibility that Tua Tagovailoa could return to action later in the year. If you're looking for WRs to target in a trade, you could do a lot worse than Jameson Williams, George Pickens, Tee Higgins or some combination of the two in addition to Diontae Johnson who will have a pretty decent upgrade with Bryce Young benched for Andy Dalton.
