Taysom Hill Waiver Wire Fantasy Outlook for Week 9: Should Saints TE be a priority add?

The wheels really came off Taysom Hill and the New Orleans Saints after an explosive start to the season. Fantasy managers rushed to add the likes of Rashid Shaheed and Derek Carr after they orchestrated an offense that had piled up 91 points in the first two weeks of football. Since then, the Saints have fizzled and collapsed, failing to pick up wins in their next six games.

Should there be optimism now that Derek Carr is likely to make a comeback on Sunday? And will we see legacy fantasy favorite Taysom Hill emerge from the shadows and win a few matchups on his own? Here's all you need to know about the Saints TE's fantasy outlook heading into Week 9.

Taysom Hill's game log doesn't make for fascinating reading, and the Saints tight end's comeback was ruined when they faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers. A 26-8 beatdown doesn't inspire much confidence in the offense, but help is on the way.

Coach Dennis Allen confirmed that Derek Carr will practice on Wednesday, and if all goes to plan, Carr will be back under center on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

The optimism for Hill here is that when he returned from a rib injury, he had a season-high four targets on 29 offensive snaps, which was, again, a season-high. Those snaps and targets didn't translate into points, but it's fair to wonder if some rustiness from the rib injury played a part.

Another point worth mentioning is that Klint Kubiak showcased Hill's complete Swiss knife-like skill set against the Chargers where the TE also registered four carries for 20 rushing yards (he threw a pass for three yards as well).

The Saints go up against a Panthers unit that hasn't figured out its offense or defense. The Panthers have one of the worst rushing defenses in the National Football League, so you can always bank on one Saints player having his day.

There's a lot of upside with Taysom Hill here, and the matchup's tasty enough to make him a top waiver wire add. At present, Hill is rostered in 30% of Yahoo! leagues and 19.5% of ESPN leagues.
