Terrell Owens claims he was stopping situation from escalating after punching heckler in CVS
Terrell Owens found himself in a precarious position at a CVS store in California as he confronted a heckler. Owens recently came out and spoke to the Associated Press about his role in the incident. The former NFL star wide receiver noted that the heckler swung at him first as he attempted to de-escalate a potentially volatile situation. Here's what Owens said on the matter:
“The aggressor continued threatening the fan just as he did in the store. Once again, attempting to diffuse the ongoing situation, I placed myself between the fan and the aggressor. I made verbal demands asking the aggressor to stop his threatening behavior.”
Owens added:
“Like anyone else, I was making a stop at CVS and was blindsided by all of this. Unfortunately, I had to act using self-defense to end a threat towards myself and the fan. I will attempt to make positive from this negative experience.”
As for the former San Francisco 49ers wideout, it was unclear as to whether police were called to the CVS regarding the incident.
What Happened to Terrell Owens at a Local CVS?
The incident took place late last month. TMZ received video footage of a San Francisco 49ers fan approaching the five-time All-Pro inside the CVS and had a nice conversation. Another man supposedly arrived on the scene and started trouble. All parties made their way outside the CVS. Witnesses told TMZ that the man issued threats as Terrell Owens was trying to keep the peace.
In the end, the man took a swing at Terrell Owens, which made him feel "obligated to prevent the aggressor from becoming more violent." The six-time Pro Bowler hit him and the man fell to the ground. The fight didn't carry on until after the man got up. Eventually, Owens got into his vehicle and left the store.
We will see if there is any more footage or information to come out on this incident in time. There are still several unanswered questions as to the cause and the motives for the situation, which will likely come to light in the coming weeks.
