"The wives used it the most," Kyle Shanahan says of 49ers better halves meeting with team doctor after Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest.

During Monday night's game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin suffered a hit that caused him to collapse on the field.

The game was suspended as a result of the horrendous injury due to the severity of Hamlin's health.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media about how the team spoke about and discussed the injury. He was asked how the team addressed the players in terms of Damar Hamlin's situation.

Shanahan said:

“We didn’t as a team. I saw a bunch of them individually on Tuesday. I talked to a couple while it was going on Monday night. All the guys had it in their individual meetings. In our team setting, we didn't do it though, because we kind of did it all one-on-one."

Shanahan added that the team had one-on-one chats between the team doctors and anyone who wanted to speak with them. He said most of the wives of the players took advantage of that.

He added:

"We had our doctor, our clinician, he's usually here on Tuesdays for a little bit, but we made him available all day. A lot of players used it. The thing we found out was most of them used it for their wives and people like that. A lot of our players, they were doing alright, but I think the wives used it the most.”

Hamlin was rushed to UC Medical Center as a result of the injury.

Today he was put off of a breathing tube and is now able to breathe on his own while also being able to speak.

This is amazing: For the first time, #Bills S Damar Hamlin is addressing the team via Facetime. The breathing tube is out, and he’s spent the morning speaking to various teammates on Facetime. Now, he’s delivering a message to the entire group, I’m told.
