Week 9 of the 2024 fantasy football season kicks off with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the New York Jets and Houston Texans. Both teams have featured excellent defenses this year, making some of their fantasy prospects risky to trust in lineups this week. Here are some of the best ones to target and fade.

The Texans are dealing with significant injuries to their wide receivers, with both Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs sidelined. This gives their depth options a chance to step up, including Tank Dell, but it may be Dalton Schultz who benefits the most in fantasy football this week. The Jets are allowing the third-fewest fantasy points per game to wide receivers, so Schultz may see a large workload.

Breece Hall has been the most reliable fantasy football player on the Jets' offense, as he currently ranks as the overall RB8 this year. He has also finished among the top 15 weekly running backs in five of his eight games so far. He faces a Texans defense that has been better at stopping the run than the pass, so he should be heavily involved in the offensive game plan this week.

Sportskeeda's Who Should I Start tool gives managers fantasy projections and lineup suggestions during each week of the season. This helps them to make better lineup decisions and ultimately produce higher weekly scores. Among the suggested players to avoid in Week 9 fantasy lineups is Xavier Hutchinson.

The young wide receiver is expected to see an increased workload with Diggs and Collins out with injuries, but the tool still doesn't recommend using him in starting lineups. He has failed to eclipse two receptions in a single game this season and gets a tough matchup against the Jets' elite passing defense.

Aaron Rodgers joins him on the list fades this week as he has continued to struggle in fantasy football. He has finished as the QB14 or worse in each of his past five games, despite adding Davante Adams to the roster two weeks ago.
