Tom Brady's former replacement could be Raiders' starting QB in 2023 - Report
The NFL vine has been abuzz with rumors about where Tom Brady will end up following the 2022 season. Las Vegas Raiders have been mentioned as a possible destination for the seven-time Super Bowl champion. However, one analyst thinks that Jimmy Garoppolo has a better shot at being the quarterback for the team.
Brady has spent an underwhelming year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after coming out of retirement in the offseason. He may have made it to the playoffs, but the Buccaneers have a 8-8 record and they have looked startlingly brittle at times.
Brady is also not expected to retire in the coming offseason, having just unretired last offseason. With Derek Carr having been benched by the Raiders, there is a spot open for a QB there.
Jarrett Stidham started the last game against the San Francisco 49ers and played well, throwing for three touchdowns, but still ended up with two interceptions and a loss.
So, it is very likely that they will go for a new quarterback in the offseason. Josh McDaniels is the head coach there and was a longtime assistant with the New England Patriots when Tom Brady was there. Hence, the Brady to Vegas rumors refuse to tamp down.
However, based on the latest reports, another former New England quarterback might have a better chance of linking up with the Las Vegas Raiders.
On The Dan Patrick Show, the host highlighted that McDaniels was still in place with the Patriots when Brady's relationship broke down with the team and the coaching brass. This caused him to leave for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after two decades. Instead, the head coach might have a better relationship with Jimmy Garoppolo.
Patrick also highlighted that Jimmy Garoppolo is a younger quarterback and might not be one-and-done as might happen with Tom Brady.
It might also depend on whether Brady himself believes that the Las Vegas roster is capable of winning the Super Bowl. This is so because the GOAT is not expected to go to a place that will not challenge for the Lombardi Trophy immediately. He is, after all, nearing the end of his career.
Did constant Tom Brady speculation hurt Derek Carr this season?
Albert Breer also highlighted on the show that Josh McDaniels was not fully sold on Derek Carr this season and that might have contributed to his poor performances.
There was always the spectre of former New England quarterbacks like Jimmy Garoppolo and Tom Brady hanging over him with a former Patriots coach in place. If that is indeed true, it seems Carr has lost that game and it will be someone else taking his place in Las Vegas next season.
