"Not for appearances" - Tom Brady’s special Tampa project brings hope
Tom Brady is mostly recognized for his amazing accomplishments on the football field. He is considered by almost everyone around the NFL to be the greatest player in the league's history. He is also undeniably the most accomplished quarterback the NFL has ever seen, having won seven Super Bowl rings.
While Brady will always be remembered mainly for what he did on the field, the legendary quarterback should also be honored for contributions he's made off it. He's well known to be extremely charitable, but the extent of it is likely unknown to the public.
Brady apparently prefers to keep his charity work as unknown as possible because he does it for reasons other than receiving credit.
A recent report from the Tampa Bay Times is a perfect example of who Tom Brady is as a person. They described how he frequently volunteered to help at The Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
The football legend reportedly showed up with his kids often to offer help to maintain their animal shelter. He asked for nothing in return, except to keep his appearances anonymous rather than public news.
According to Chief Development Officer Ornella Varchi, the Brady family adores animals and don't want any publicity for it:
“For the most part, nobody even knew that they were here, and they just truly were here to spend time with the animals, because both of the families just adore animals. So they really, really wanted to help. It was not for appearances, and I think in part, that’s why they also liked coming here, because they did have privacy and they could just spend time volunteering and giving their time and energy to the animals.”
Manager Sherry Silk also shared her experience with Tom Brady at the facility:
“He would pick (his kids) up at school, and you’d see his pickup truck, he would pull into our lot, and there he was. And he just came in and did his thing. Sometimes it would be once a week; sometimes it would be every other week. It just depended on his schedule. Vivian and Ben were almost always with him. Sometimes his other son (Jack), would come, too. And they would spend an hour-and-a-half, two hours, literally hanging out and helping the animals.”
It should come as no surprise that Tom Brady volunteered some of the little free time he has available to help animals, while only requesting anonymity as his reward. He's been one of the most charitable players in the entire NFL, adding even more to his legendary story.
Tom Brady regularly works with many charities, including his own TB12 Foundation
During his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, Tom Brady regularly got himself involved with various charities.
Ryan Jensen, his Bucs teammate, is apparently the one who hooked him up with The Humane Society of Tampa Bay, but this is just one of many of Brady's efforts.
Among the many organizations he's reportedly worked with are the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Best Buddies International, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He has apparently contributed millions of dollars to these organizations as well as several others.
While most of the charities Tom Brady worked with over the years have been associated with needy children, he has also helped out in many other areas. A prime example of this is his TB12 Foundation, which focuses on providing aid to fellow athletes who may be struggling.
