"Too many punts" - Tom Brady takes a veiled dig at Buccaneers coaching staff for not trusting him

NFL fans tune in every Monday to listen to Tom Brady on the Let's Go! podcast. The podcast is co-hosted by Jim Gray and Larry Fitzpatrick and is a great way to hear the legendary quarterback's take on every week's events in the NFL. This week, Brady spoke about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 20-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brady shared his thoughts on how the team played. He said they were sloppy and that there were too many missed opportunities. He insinuated that he wasn't necessarily happy with the play-calling. Brady also said that he was upset with the number of punts by the Buccaneers:

"A lot of punts is sloppy, and I think that's what you're looking at, when you watch us play quite a bit lately. Too many punts, too many missed opportunities for points, two point plays now, one against Green Bay, one against Pittsburgh, that, you know, we didn't have the opportunity to complete. We just messed them up."

He continued:

"We just have not played the style that that we've wanted to play. And I think there's a lot of soul searching, we all go in there we all take you know, believe me after every game, you sit here and all you do is think about all the things you did wrong."

The Buccaneers went into Pittsburgh heavily favored as the Steelers were just 1-4. But even without some of their starting defensive players, Pittsburgh were able to get to Brady and stop the Buccaneers offense.

Tom Brady said his outburst was supposed to rally his teammates

A clip from the match showed Tom Brady shouting at his offensive line. Many criticized the quarterback for his outburst, believing him to be largely at fault. Brady said that it was supposed to rally his teammates:

“That’s what my job is, to try to get us going and to try to rally us. And there’s a lot of ways to do it. And sometimes it’s some positive encouragement, which you do a lot. Sometimes it’s, you know, getting on people and trying to raise the level, the sense of urgency, and raising my voice and trying to create a different vibration for the whole offense. And that’s ultimately what you’re trying to do.”

Brady went on to say that it wasn't one of his best days. He said that with the way television broadcasts are shown, fans at home can see and hear just about everything. Tom Brady and the Buccaneers offense will no doubt work to clean up their game this week.

They are preparing to play the 1-5 Carolina Panthers, another game in which they will be huge favorites. We will see if they can play to their expectations, or once again fall victim to a trap game.
