Trey Sermon or Tyler Goodson: Week 7 Fantasy outlook and projections for Colts RBsĀ
The AFC South hasn't quite shaped up how most expected it to after six weeks of football. Entering Week 7, the Indianapolis Colts find themselves second in the AFC South with a 3-3 record and a showdown against the Miami Dolphins on the horizon. The Colts were handed a late blow for the game on Sunday after it was revealed that lead running back Jonathan Taylor would play no part in the proceedings owing to an ankle injury.
The focus for the Colts will now shift to backup running backs Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson as they prep to host Miami. So which of these running backs is likely to net a higher return for your fantasy roster?
Trey Sermon vs Tyler Goodson fantasy outlook
With Jonathan Taylor missing the past few weeks of football, the Colts asked Trey Sermon to take over, and take over he did. Sermon took 60% of the Colts' RB snaps since Taylor's injury, but he hasn't had much success on the ground.
Surprisingly, Sermon had a much better game receiving in Week 5, catching six passes for 25 yards. That was clearly an outlier, but the potential is there.
Sermon also popped up on the Colts' injury report for Week 7 with a knee issue but was upgraded to limited on Thursday. The Colts RB doesn't have an injury designation for the Dolphins showdown, which means he will take the field. But even if he does, with Anthony Richardson back, we're not that high on either running back this week.
Sermon hasn't been all that productive, and Goodson has sleeper potential at best even if he has shown a lot more promise than Sermon. The Dolphins are among the worst run defenses in football, but don't expect Goodson or Sermon to dominate this matchup.
If we absolutely must choose between the two, Sportskeeda's Start/Sit Optimizer is higher on Sermon this week.
That said, we are a little more convinced about Goodson's potential for the sole reason that Sermon has struggled mightily to get things going, while Goodson was quietly impressive against the Titans last week.
