Tyreek Hill 100m time: Dolphins star's Usain Bolt-like track and field prowess explored

Tyreek Hill and Usain Bolt may not seem to have a lot in common, but there is more to that than meets the eye. The Miami Dolphins player recently shocked the NFL world by saying that he does not plan to play beyond his current contract that expires in 2025. He is just 29 years old and by the time his contract ends, he will still be in prime playing condition.

Hill recently stoked fire about his future plans after taking part in the 25-29 age division of the USA Track and Field Masters Indoor Championships. He ran a 6.70 in the 60-meter dash and finished first in the category. This has brought out rumors that he may be planning a career switch over to athletics when his time is over in the NFL. He previously participated in the NCAA Indoor Championship and was a high school athlete.

Such a career would not be much different from Usain Bolt's in many ways. The champion sprinter won everything that was there to win on the track before living out his dream of becoming a professional soccer player. While he did not break through the ranks, he did play friendlies for the Central Coast Mariners in the Australian League and was eventually offered a contract.

Can Tyreek Hill follow Bolt's path and become a professional in two different sports? We look at some of his results to determine where he stands.

Tyreek Hill's 100m sprint on par with some of the best athletes

The 100 meter sprint is one of the flagship events in track and field. Usain Bolt holds the current world record at 9.58 seconds, which is lightning fast. Tyreek Hill did not feature too badly as his personal best in the event was 10.19 seconds. In a wind-assisted event, he cracked the 10-second barrier and finished in 9.98 seconds.

Where Hill has done better is in the 200 meter event. His 20.14 seconds during his high school career were sufficient to beat the qualifying time for the Olympic Trials of 20.55 seconds. However, that is still nearly a second slower than the record held by Bolt, which stands at 19.19 seconds.

Tyreek Hill 40-yard dash time: Near the very best

The Dolphins wide receiver might not currently challenge the Olympian in his field but there is no reason to believe that if he specifically trained for track and field that he would not be able to do it. After all, his 40-yard dash time is one of the best in the NFL. His 4.29 seconds on the Pro Day would be tied joint 11th amongst all dashes.

John Ross set a 4.22 second time in 2017, which stands as the current record. Usain Bolt once also ran a 40-yard dash and equalled this record.

Tyreek Hill has maintained, though, that over 40 yards, he will beat Usain Bolt.

Tyreek Hill vs Usain Bolt: Battle of elite runners

So, would Tyreek Hill be able to best Usain Bolt if he were to become an athlete one day? Based on current times, the comparison is moot as the Jamaican comes out on top in every metric. However, one must remember that the NFL player is not yet a professional track and field athlete. As a footballer, he has to have a certain bulk on him that is not required of a sprinter.

Usain Bolt has also not been shy about saying he would be the fastest player in the NFL if he ever decided to play the sport. He is a Green Bay Packers fan and contended that he would easily usurp the title currently held by 'Cheetah'.

Since the Olympian has not stepped onto the NFL field yet, maybe Hill can decide to take him on on his own patch instead.
