Was Aaron Rodgers on The Office? Revisiting Packers star’s cameo on popular NBC show

Some cameos, however small, are unforgettable. Especially when the person appearing on the show is iconic.

In 2013, Aaron Rodgers ended up making a small cameo on The Office, which is easily one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time. Premiering in 2005, the show grew over the years, earning a loyal fanbase and a string of impressive cameos.

Rodgers, who had been a fan, appeared in season 9 episode 22 titled 'A.A.R.M' which aired on May 9, 2013.

In the episode, Andy Bernard (played by Ed Helms) is seen auditioning for 'America's Next A Capella Sensation'. Of course, the audition didn't go as planned. Bernard, who was asked not to audition, made it past security to perform in front of the judges.

Amongst the other judges, Clay Aiken and Santigold, was Aaron Rodgers. In the end, Bernard didn't manage to make any progress, ending up breaking down.

Rodgers says:

"No, you're a middle aged man with a lot of makeup on"

As Helm's character explains his side, Rodgers adds:

"Flag on the play".

When Andy begins to sing, the judges can't help but laugh, letting him know that his talent isn't up to the mark. Rodgers explained:

"Look man you're not terrible. But we've heard a lot of really seers today and you're just not good enough"

How did Aaron Rodgers end up on The Office?

As per reports, Rodgers could have been on the show due to his friend Brian Baumgartner. He met Baumgartner in 2008, and had to share how much of a fan he was.

Interestingly, Baumgartner wasn't aware of who Aaron Rodgers was. Baumgartner told ABC:

“In 2008, which was my first year, I was there and I was sitting next to a guy at a blackjack table who told me he was a big fan and it turned out he was Aaron Rodgers. I had no idea who he was, no clue. This is the Summer before he became a starter and I’m like oh you’re the cow guy who’s never gonna play because of Brett Favre, right.”

In 2021, Rodgers wore a t-shirt representing the show, and also probably also making a statement on his return to the Green Bay Packers back then. Though it could just be a choice, some observed the parallels between Rodgers' situation with the Packers.

The t-shirt in question was from the show's Episode 98, where Baumgartner's character Kevin Malone gets homemade chili for his colleagues. However, he drops it and ends up cleaning it with binders. As per a few people, Malone was the Packers' front office, and Rodgers was the chili they spilt.

The trade between the Packers and Jets for QB Aaron Rodgers is getting close to being done, according to multiple reports.

That being said, Rodgers is currently looking to move to the New York Jets for the 2023 season. Of course, despite various reports and Rodgers' statement, a deal is yet to be finalized.
