Week 10 updated NFL Draft order: Patriots reclaim top spot, Cowboys inch closer to Ashton Jeanty spot
The NFL Draft order continues to take shape as Week 10 of the 2024 season approaches and the year has surpassed the halfway point. The order is determined by going in the reverse order of the overall standings, with the worst team getting the top pick. At this point in the season, that spot is occupied by the New England Patriots.
Prior to the completion of Week 9, the Carolina Panthers owned the top pick, but by defeating the New Orleans Saints, they have fallen to the second spot behind the Patriots. Quarterbacks often dominate the earliest picks in the draft each year, but with the Patriots selecting Drake Maye last year, it will be interesting to see what they do with it if they keep it.
The same can relatively be said for the Panthers, who drafted Bryce Young just two year ago, but he lost the starting job to Andy Dalton earlier this season. He has reclaimed it in recent weeks, but it's unclear how much confidence the franchise has in him as their potential franchise quarterback.
The Dallas Cowboys are another interesting team to keep an eye on as they currently have the 11th pick in the NFL Draft order. They could have their sights set on Heisman Trophy candidate Ashton Jeanty of Boise State as their running back situation has been a major problem this year. Their rushing deficiencies have heavily contributed to their 3-5 record so far.
With nine weeks remaining in the 2024 NFL season, the draft order is likely to continue changing. Using Sportskeeda's NFL Playoff Predictor, here's what it could look like at the end of the season.
Projected 2025 NFL Draft order entering Week 10
In an interesting twist to the current NFL Draft order, Sportskeeda's predictor tool projects the Miami Dolphins to eventually earn the No. 1 pick with a disastrous 4-13 record. Making this even worse is that the Dolphins are expected to have the easiest strength of schedule for the remainder of the 2024 season.
The predictor tool projects the Patriots to fall to fifth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft order, with the Cowboys also falling to the 17th spot. This is not an ideal situation for the Cowboys because they are still projected to miss out on the playoffs this year, but their 9-8 predicted record hurts their potential draft pick. If they are targeting Jeanty, he may no longer be available for them in this spot.
