Were The Simpsons mocking Tom Brady’s Deflategate scandal? Revisiting QB’s iconic 2005 appearance
Tom Brady has made a plethora of television and commercial appearances throughout his 23-year NFL career. In 2005, the now-seven-time Super Bowl champion made an appearance on the long-running animated sitcom The Simpsons. In the episode, Homer Simpson is tasked with planning a Super Bowl halftime show.
The quarterback is one of the athletes who helped Homer Simpson plan the show. Afterward, Homer is hosting a "Homer Simpson Showboating Academy" where he touts having 'poor sportsmanship'.
The quarterback, who voiced his own character, says that he believes in good sportsmanship. Homer replied by telling the quarterback that he needed to be quiet.
Tom Brady: "But I like to stand for good sportsmanship."
Homer Simpson: "Quiet, you!"
Tom Brady: "Yes, Sir."
The Simpsons are notorious for correctly predicting what will happen in the future. From presidential elections and pop culture to everything in between.
This dig by The Simpsons may have been just one of the ways that the show was able to take a crack at the quarterback's misdoings.
Tom Brady records the first-ever losing season of his career
Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are champions of the NFC South and will now host the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round next Monday night.
But a loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday afternoon has the Bucs with just an 8-9 record. This is the first time the 45-year-old quarterback has ever finished the regular season with a losing record. Yet, he still has the opportunity at winning a playoff game.
He finished the 2022 season ranked third in the league for passing yards with 4,694 yards. His QB rating of 90.7, which is 18th in the league, and his 25 touchdown passes, tie him for eighth. While the Bucs' record shows a decline in the team's success this year, so does the quarterback's individual stats.
However, according to FOX Sports' Greg Auman, those stats, while less than the last two seasons, were still higher than his final season with the New England Patriots in 2019.
He and the Bucs will now have their hands full with facing the Dallas Cowboys for the second time this season. The Bucs defeated Dallas in Week 1, a game where Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott left late in the contest with a hand injury.
