What did Derek Carr’s brother say about Jets meeting? Speculation continues after official visit
Derek Carr, the former quarterback of the Las Vegas Raiders, paid a visit to the New York Jets ahead of his probable decision to sign with a new team in free agency. Carr had previously visited the New Orleans Saints, and both teams are quite interested in him.
Although the Jets are also keen on getting Aaron Rodgers, they haven't ruled out bringing in Carr if things with Rodgers don't work out. Derek Carr's brother, David Carr, was recently asked about his brother's trip to New York.
Here's what David Carr said on NFL Network:
"He's not going to be in a situation where he just gets on a plane to go have fun in New York, which as much as we would love to do that love that volunteers, it'd be fine. But yeah, Derek had a great trip."
Carr continued:
"So, he went there to get a feel for how they work, you know, from the top down and everyone he met and we knew he would love Robert Saleh, I've known Robert for a while. He's fantastic and they hit it off, and they, they would love to work together."
He added:
"They talked about a lot of different things and obviously, the team is just in need of a quarterback, some stability there. They have a lot of good components. There's a lot of things that are very positive about the Jets. He had a great trip so it's honestly it's gonna be a long process though."
Since the Las Vegas Raiders were unable to find a trade partner for Carr, they were forced to release him, and the quarterback is now free to sign with any team.
Both the New Orleans Saints and the New York Jets can make a playoff push with Carr at quarterback, so it will be intriguing to see where he ends up.
Derek Carr could be a better alternative than Aaron Rodgers for Jets
Acquiring Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers will require trading assets, whereas the Jets can get Derek Carr for free. Furthermore, no one knows how long Rodgers will play, so the Jets must make a smart selection.
The former Raiders quarterback has never played on a team with good defense, but the Jets have one of the league's best. Carr simply needs a chance to redeem himself, and New York will be the best place for him to do so.
