What happened to Deebo Samuel? 49ers WR suffers potentially season-ending injury
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a leg injury versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his team's Week 14 match. Samuel was injured after getting rolled up as he was running up the middle of the field.
The wideout fumbled on the play and Tampa Bay recovered the ball. He was unable to put weight on his injured leg and had to be taken off the field on a cart. Earlier this season, the All-Pro receiver had suffered a hamstring injury in Week 7 versus the Kansas City Chiefs.
How long will Deebo Samuel be out for?
It is unknown at the moment how long Samuel will be out of action for the 49ers. Samuel is officially questionable to return with a knee injury. It looks like he is more doubtful than questionable, but hopefully, it looks worse than it is.
Throughout his NFL career, the former University of South Carolina star has had issues with leg injuries.
On top of hamstring injuries, Samuel has dealt with calf and knee injuries also. When healthy, the Pro Bowler has proven to be one of the major catalysts for the 49ers' offense this season.
Deebo Samuel injury: A massive blow to 49ers' Super Bowl hopes
Deebo Samuel is a major reason why most NFL analysts have the 49ers as a Super Bowl favorite this season. So far this season, he has led the team in targets with 86, and is second in receptions and receiving yards also for the team.
On the ground also, he's been an asset given that he's third on the team in both rushing yards and touchdowns.
Last season, he led the NFL in yards per reception with 18.2 and was third in yards from scrimmage with 1,770. He became the third receiver in 49ers history to have 1,400 receiving in a season, joining Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens. Samuel had 1,405 yards in the 2021-22 season.
If Samuel is out for any extended amount of time, it could derail the San Francisco 49ers' Super Bowl odds this season.
