What Happened to JK Dobbins? Chargers RB placed on IR after suffering injury in Week 12
Los Angeles Chargers running back JK Dobbins has been extremely unlucky with injuries throughout his career. Since he was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2020 NFL Draft, he suffered three major injuries and played just 24 games. It was not surprising to see Baltimore letting him go in free agency.
He signed with the Chargers, and his start to the season had been excellent. However, during their Week 12 game, which happened to be against the Ravens, he suffered a knee injury and had to leave the game early. And the news are not good.
On Saturday, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that the team decided to place Dobbins on the injured reserve, meaning that he'll miss at least the next four games. His earliest date to return is Week 17, but there's a strong chance he'll miss the rest of the regular season.
Dobbins amassed 776 rushing yards until he suffered the injury, earning a good average of 4.8 yards per carry while also adding eight touchdowns in 2024. He was one of the best running backs in the league, and all that in a contract signed by just $1.1 million.
What injuries did JK Dobbins suffer throughout his career?
The current Chargers running back has had a tough time in his NFL career, never playing a full season. His first spell away from the field happened in 2020 when he had to deal with a COVID-19 close contact and missed one game.
The freakiest injury happened in 2021. During a preseason game against the Washington Commanders, he tore his ACL, his LCL and his hamstring on the left leg. He did not play a single game that year, only returning in 2022. Although he finished that season, he still missed most of the year with a new knee injury.
A new problem surged in 2023 when he tore his Achilles during the first game of the season. This was his last game for the Ravens, who decided not to re-sign him and let him hit the market. Although the Chargers got a bargain, the new injury could change their plans.
