What happened to Nick Foles? QB suffers painful injury vs. Giants
Nick Foles started his first game of the season with the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17 as they faced the New York Giants. However, Foles found himself injured with under a minute left in the first half after a sack by defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux.
The Colts quarterback laid on the turf at MetLife Stadium as the cart came onto the field. It's unknown whether Foles will be back in the game. It was later disclosed that Foles injured his ribs.
The former Eagles quarterback threw for 81 yards and an interception before his exit from the game. Sam Ehlinger, in his second season with the Colts, replaced Foles under center. Matt Ryan, who started 12 games this season for Indianapolis, was inactive for the matchup.
Prior to starting this game, Nick Foles started last week versus the Los Angeles Chargers. He threw for 143 yards and an interception on 17 of 29 passes in the 20-3 loss to the Chargers.
Foles was signed by the Colts back in May as a veteran backup to Ryan. In his career, Foles has started 57 games for six NFL teams.
Going back to Foles' injury, something interesting happened as the Colts' medical team tended to him.
Kayvon Thibodeaux celebrates while Nick Foles was in agonizing pain
After Kayvon Thibodeaux sacked Foles, the former Oregon Ducks star was seen celebrating next to the quarterback. The defensive end was seen doing a snow angel as Foles was lying in pain just inches away. One of Thibodeaux's teammates immediately picked up the rookie to stop the celebration. It looked as though he was unaware of Foles' injury.
For Thibodeaux and the Giants defense, they've played well against the Colts at home. The celebration by Thibodeaux at the end of the sack seemed unintentional. We'll see how the defensive end reacts after the game about his sack on Nick Foles.
