When Aaron Rodgers admitted playing better with ayahuasca in his system:-"I've been enjoying it since I did it"

Aaron Rodgers surprised everyone in 2022 when he admitted that he previously took an offseason trip to experiment with ayahuasca. The quarterback credited the hallucinogenic for helping him to work on his mental health.

In 2022, while making his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," the former NFL punter asked the quarterback about his newfound love for the game of football. It was then that Rodgers revealed his enjoyment for the game came back after his experience with ayahuasca.

"I've been really enjoying football since I did ayahuasca.. the locker room is where the chemistry takes place," Rodgers said on "The Pat McAfee Show" in 2022.

Aaron Rodgers, who still played for the Green Bay Packers at the time, said that the experience allowed him to connect with his teammates on a broader level. This in turn allowed him to enjoy the overall experience of playing in the NFL once again.

Besides taking trips to Peru, Rodgers has also credited spending days in a dark cave alone, which he said has allowed him to think clearly and envision what path his NFL career was taking.

Jordan Poyer reveals he joined Aaron Rodgers on ayahuasca trip

Aaron Rodgers' revelation about taking two trips to Peru to try out hallucinogenics shocked many people. His first trip was in 2020 and then during the 2022 offseason, Rodgers put together another group of friends to join him.

In November 2023, Miami Dolphins safety Jordan Poyer, who played for the Buffalo Bills at the time, revealed to Robert Griffin III that he went with Rodgers to Peru.

During an episode of Griffin's "RG3 And The Ones" podcast, Poyer said that he felt a lot of people brushed off Rodgers' idea, but he decided that it may be a good decision for himself personally.

“A lot of people wrote him off, a lot of people think he’s crazy, a lot think he’s just off the wire, but I was interested, so I went,” Jordan Poyer told Robert Griffin III.

Poyer has been open about his issues with alcohol dependency and sobriety. He has said in the past that offseason retreats have helped him become a better husband and father as well as an NFL player.

He was open to Rodgers' idea of trying ayahuasca as another way to naturally cope with mental health issues.
