When Patrick Mahomes' wife Brittany felt envious of QB's bromance with Travis Kelce - "Getting jealous of this love"
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce's "bromance" is the stuff of legend. The two are one of the most potent passer-receiver pairings in NFL history on the field, and they are also some of the most visible celebrities off of it, with various endorsements coming their way.
However, if Mahomes' wife Brittany is to be asked, there was once a time when she felt like the "third wheel" in their group. In October 2022, shortly after the Kansas City Chiefs had beaten the visiting Las Vegas Raiders, she reacted to their postgame interview by sharing a clip on X with the reaction:
"I'm getting jealous of this love"
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce's Week 6 absence affects ratings
As said earlier, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are undeniably superstars, but the extent of their popularity hadn't been apparent until now. A few days ago, Sports Media Watch revealed that ratings for Sunday's games went down across the networks.
Thursday night's San Francisco 49ers-Seattle Seahawks game, whoch aired on Aamazon Prime, was down by five percent compared to the same slot last year. Meanwhile, Fox suffered a decline of 13% across its early afternoon games.
The Detroit Lions' rout of the Dallas Cowboys averaged 11.06 ratings and 24.06 million views - down from the 12.08 and 26.09 million the New York Jets' upset of the Philadelphia Eagles had drawn in the same game week.
There were also worries ar NBC, as the Cincinnati Bengals' defeat of the New York Giants proved to be the least-watched Sunday Night Football telecast since 2020, at only 15.44 million viewers.
That was lower than ESPN/ABC's sole Monday night game between the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets, which drew 17.3 million, down from the Cowboys-Los Angeles Chargers tussle in 2023 but still the second-largest Week 6 figure since ESPN started airing the program in 2006.
So, the league, and especially Fox, should be relieved to have Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and company back against the 49ers on Sunday. Linebacker Fred Warner is creating interest online by making narratives about defeating the duo for the first time, saying on his podcast The Warner House:
"I'd have to say (Mahomes is) at the top, since I've yet to beat them."
Kickoff is at 4:25 p.m. ET.
