When Rob Gronkowski threw haymakers to protect Tom Brady - “Screw it”
Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady won four Super Bowls together, three of which came for the New England Patriots. The most iconic of them all was perhaps Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks in early 2015.
The Patriots went on to win the game due to an interception thrown by Russell Wilson at the one-yard line. At the end of the game, a fight broke out between the two teams. Gronkowski, Brady, Bruce Irvin and Michael Bennett were all in the mix of things.
After the game, Gronkowski claimed that he was protecting Brady, just like any other player would have. Here's what he said about the incident:
“I got pushed or something, and it was the last game of the year, and I was like, ‘Screw it, I’m throwing some haymakers.
“It’s football, things happen. It’s all good. I mean, it’s all good. They played ball, they’re a hardworking team, and we just came out and did what we did to get the win.”
Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski share a bond like no other, both on and off the field. They are arguably the best QB-TE duo in the history of the NFL and it's fair to say that they are the greatest players of all time in their respective positions.
Having won three Super Bowls together for the New England Patriots, the duo added another in 2021 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rob Gronkowski could reunite with Tom Brady next season
Rob Gronkowski retired for the second time after the Buccaneers were knocked out of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Rams last season. Throughout the 2022 campaign, there was talk about his return, but he didn't change his mind.
However, he could be back next season and potentially play with Tom Brady once again. Brady will be a free agent after this campaign and could team up with Gronkowski on a team of his choice.
The Las Vegas Raiders are rumored to be the frontrunners to land Brady due to the quarterback's connection with Josh McDaniels. Having Gronk and Brady on that offense with the likes of Davante Adams, Darren Waller, and Hunter Renfrow would be a scary sight for any defense.
Although nothing has been confirmed yet, the possibility of Brady and Gronk playing together next season is quite high.
Tom Brady news and rumors: Buccaneers QB's Tampa home listed for rent
Brady's Tampa home is reportedly listed for rent, further adding credence to the rumors of his Buccaneers exit.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion has reportedly been renting a worth $70,000 in Miami for the past few days and it could be an indication of his future.
Brady hinted that he's still undecided about his future on the Let's Go podcast this week, though it remains to be seen if he decides to call time on a glorious career or pursue a team with a stronger roster for the 2023 season.
